Hey, I need to replace my volume cable as it broke but im confused to as how it works. I’ve looked for replacement parts but all of them are missing the physical mute switch and one with a mute switch is stupid expensive. Would you happen to know how the mute switch is attached to the flex cable? Is it soldered or does it just clip in like a flex cable. My issue is with the iPhone 8P but i’m pretty sure its standard across all iPhones. Thanks!
The physical mute switch – that is, the piece that you move back and forth with your finger – is not part of the cable assembly. The flex cable has a tiny internal switch that sits in a recess under the physical mute switch. Although it’s not in English, watch this video starting at 3:04 and you can see how the assembly comes apart, and at 4:08 in the same video you can see the technician separating the flex cable from the physical mute switch, giving you a pretty clear view of how they mate.
