My iPhone 6S recently died, it was fine days prior then one day I looked at it and the display glitched out with different colors and the the screen went black. I could still see the back light on for a while after but Still a black screen. Tried to hard reset, nothing happened. Eventually no backlight and it hasn’t turned back on since. Even after trying to charge for a while. Took it I’m for diagnostic and one guy said it could be the battery or the display. Then the test said motherboard or battery. I ordered a new battery and nothing appears on the screen but a part of the screen gets pretty hot. I love this phone so much, I don’t want a new one, I’d rather repair it myself. Does anyone know if the motherboard is broken, will the screen still get hot? Or can anyone suggest ways to trouble shoot before I purchase the logic board?

A board may be “broken” in many possible ways, completely dead or partially faulty. A faulty board may be unable to operate properly because of an internal failure as well as a faulty part, like the screen. First and easiest thing to try would be replacing the screen with a known good one..if that was already attempted to no avail, then a logic board issue is a likely possibility. You may have a partially faulty board which still boots but doesn’t produce an image or it does but the image is unable to reach the screen. Troubleshooting further the iPhone beside parts replacements requires professional skills and tools, not a DIY task.
