I recently cut the mic from an old MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009 and used it to urgently and successfully replace a damaged one in a more recent MacBook Pro. now im close to fixing the older model I thought I would replace the mic just in case I ever wish to use it…. when I got the remaining cable and plug from the MB I discovered has 3 leads and not the two I was expecting.. all very messy I know.. yet anyone know the pinout on this?

Given the cost why don’t you just replace the full assembly than dicker around with splicing the wires. Here’s the part from IFIXIT: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Microphone As for the wiring the two black wires are the mic and the grey is ground. You do need to wire all of the wires otherwise you’ll get noise.
