Microphone not working properly, been told it sounds muffled or breaking up. Can hear fine. Very frustrating. Anything I can do?

Hi, Try using the earphones with the microphone attachment and make or receive a call. If you cannot be heard properly there is a problem with the voice transmission circuitry in the phone on the systemboard. If you can be heard properly you either have a faulty internal microphone, a loose internal microphone or perhaps the voice ‘inlet’ hole at the bottom of the phone has become blocked with lint. To check the last possibility, use a strong light and a magnifying glass to see if the hole appears to be blocked. If it does DO NOT use a probe to try and clear it. You may damage the microphone which is directly behind it. Try using a vacuum cleaner to suck the obstruction out If this doesn’t work then here is a link to a video which shows how to dis-assemble an Asus Zenfone 2. Hopefully it is close enough to your model to be of some help, so that you can check the microphone and the ‘inlet’ hole.
