after I dropped my MacBook pro on its side the microphone stopped working the sound still works so I was thinking maybe I just need to replace the mic but I’m not sure what do you think the issue can be ?

You may have just dislodged the mic connector. Review this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Microphone Replacement. Jump to Step 21 to check the connector. Otherwise you’ll need to replace it.
