The mic stopped working on my phone. I can’t use it on calls, record a voice note or a voice message on WhatsApp. Interestingly it doesn’t allow the option rather than record silence. If I connect a Bluetooth headset it works fine. I have bought and gone through the painful process of replacing the mic, speaker & charge port component thinking this would fix it, it didn’t. The phone works as before and still charges as normal. I bought a wired only headset (to save needing to pair a Bluetooth device before I could answer a call) and that also doesn’t work. I have tested the headset on an iPad and it functions fine. I don’t have the ability to plug it into a laptop to test if the charge port can pass data. Any ideas on what bit has broken, and how to fix it? I don’t remember having an iOS update before the mic stopped functioning and it’s not been dropped or submerged. Thanks in advance for the help.
If nothing happens when you try and record voice memo your phone has developed the signature audio fault for the 7 series. This is caused by a trace and pad under the audio IC becoming disconnected usually due to flex issues. The repair requires the audio IC to be removed and a micro jumper installed and the audio IC re-balled and replaced. This repair requires microsoldering and costs around $90.00
