I have been using an unofficial magsafe 2 charger ( correct 85w) for a couple years without any problem. However, it overheated when I used it resting on a leather sofa. There was no spark nor burn marks but after unplugging it and letting it cool down, my macbook could only charge when powered off or in sleep mode (lid closed). When trying to charge whilst using the laptop, the magsafe light would blink alternatively green/orange very fast and not charge. After letting it run out of battery, it wouldn’t charge anymore (no light on magsafe). Tried with an official apple charger, same result with no light and hence impossible to turn on macbook. I have opened it, unplugged the battery and plugged the official charger: no light, no booting. Then replaced the battery with a charged one: no light, no booting. What’s most likely the issue here please? Many thanks in advance for your replies!!
At this point you need to start at the MagSafe port of the system. is the connection pins discolored? Does the plastic look melted or distorted? If the port is in bad shape you’ll need to replace it following this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Trackpad Replacement and here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2015) MagSafe 2 DC-In Board Beyond that the logic board has likely been damaged from the Knockoff charger (sadly a common issue) There is a set of MOSFET’s which control the pathing of power between the MagSafe port, battery and the logic board one or more of these is likely damaged. You will need to find someone with the deeper skills to diagnose the logic boar and has the tools and access to the needed parts to fix it.
