Hi, is there anything I can do to fix the cathode in this Apple Macintosh Classic? When powered on there is crackling sparks and a loud crackling sound. No image is displayed. Image links: https://ibb.co/KmmhS8P https://ibb.co/Yb6XqsN Is the CRT done for? It’s a pity because the rest of the computer is quite tidy and in pretty decent condition. Appreciate the help very much. I have checked a lot of manuals both found nothing with regard to this particular issue.
At this age the main thing that fails first on these are the capacitors. Look for leaking or swollen ones on the power board. The real pro on getting these running is www.maccaps.com He has a lot of information on his site on repairing them. He also offers a mail=in service. He is slow but does very nice work.
