I have an old Kenmore model 417.94812301 that will randomly not drain after the initial wash cycle. It only started happening recently and does not occur every load but when it does, the full tub spins prior to the rinse cycle and the water splashes out. In my testing if I stopped it during the full tub spin and restarted it with the dial at the same location, it would begin to drain as it’s supposed to. It appears as if initially the pump isn’t receiving the message to drain. I have removed the agitator and cleaned out the spin tub. I have disconnected all the hoses and inspected them and the pump for clogs. The drain itself is also unobstructed. The detergent is measured with each load and is the same brand I have used for years. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @maxthelion , It may be a problem with the washer timer part #8 - control panel parts diagram. The timer is an electro-mechanical device that uses a motor to step around and then contacts are operated by cams when at the selected point in the wash cycle. They are very difficult to repair mainly because there are no spare parts for the internal components of the timer. If you look at the wiring diagram in the link (it is a bit difficult to see, so see image below) the pump motor circuit goes through a few contacts in the timer. Maybe start at the contact connected to pump terminal #2. I can’t work out what the timer terminal number is even when zoomed in. All I know is that it is a red/white wire from the pump connected to cam #10 (and not a white/red which is shown next on the timer connections coming from the door lock)
