My mbp can run on power adapter and charges the battery, amber light, and green when completely charged. But when I remove the charger the mbp dies. The leds on the side indicate the battery is charged. I can’t see any problems on the logic board but don’t know exactly where to look. Can I check something on the logic board that is damaged? Update (03/30/2019)
No problem with the battery. Maybe some extra info. I replaced my Logic board with one af a 2e hand mbp. The logic board has a problem with the GPU but does not matter to me. I have a feeling that the previous owner tried to fix it with heating up the bord. I’m running Linux Mint on it now without any problem except for the battery. I have macOS still on an external drive with gpu disabled true software. So I could still run coconut. So I think something in the locig board is damaged that prevents the use of the battery without the charger. Some help in finding the faulty component would be helpfull
Hard to tell where to start, if you have troubles in replacing a simple connector on your old board you’ll likely have ten times more to troubleshoot a faulty charging circuit and get replaced the necessary components to get the board back running from battery. If you noticed previous signs of attempted repair, you have there a board with unpredictable damages to discover..those are the boards I usually hate to work with, even more than liquid damaged ones. Ultimately the choice is yours, however if I were you I’d get a faulty board from ebay, a few lvds connectors and start practicing until you can manage to get done the job on your old board. Just my 2 cents..
