Hi, I have an 2009 MacBook that has sat in storage for the last 3-4 years after the hard drive died. I pulled it out recently to find that it won’t turn on or charge. Power light on the charger won’t light up even when plugged into the computer. I tried a buddy’s charger and didn’t work either. I’ve tried unplugging the battery and cleaning connections with no luck. Any help would be appreciated thanks!
I found a few logic boards having developed oxide inside A1181, apparently even without any liquid damage signs. Try taking out the ram sticks and check their condition and that of the ram slots. If those are clean, you’ll need to open up to check general conditions of the logic board, especially where the board takes power from the magsafe board. However, in case you get it back running, you’ll have to access the board in any case to take care of thermal paste which, by now, is surely dry and unsuitable to dissipate heat properly.
See if you can get a spontaneous reboot. Disconnect the battery from the logic board. Remove the mag-safe adapter. Press and hold the power on button for 10 seconds. Reconnect the battery and mag-safe and it should boot. Let us know if this fails or you get any reaction.
