I replaced my hard drive with no problem, but I think I may have done some damage in there while doing it. When the Jupiter is in the proper alignment with Mars and I jump 3 times and spit, my laptop may start up. I close the lid and the front LED does it’s proper glowing thing, telling me that it’s properly asleep. When I open up the lid again, nothing happens. The intriguing thing is that if I hold down the power button, it will shut down, so clearly the keyboard is functioning (or at least the power button). However, once I do that, I can’t get it to start back up again. My assumption is that the laptop still thinks the lid is closed. Anyone have any other guesses? And if I am right, any ideas on how to fix that? Thanks all! Update Just to clarify: The laptop worked just fine for a while, but then ran into the trouble I mentioned in the original post. At his point, the laptop won’t turn on at all…no glowing light, no whirring of the hard drive, no fan, nothing. One in a blue moon it happens to turn on, at which point it works fine until I close the lid and then it stays a glowing light with no ability to get it started back up (regardless of if I lift the lid or hit the power butt). Mayer: I’m not sure what you mean by jump. Could you clarify? Thanks everyone for the help so far! Update magsafe light turns on just fine as do lights on the battery.

Double check if all the screws were installed at the right locations when assembling the MBP after the HD swap.

This could be a lot of things, thus we may need to try a lot of things. Be patient. First make sure the battery is charged up by charging for at least an hour. We have to be able to boot to fix anything. Try this:

  1. Shut down MacBook and remove the battery;
  2. Hold down the Start button for ten seconds and then release it;
  3. Reinstall the battery
  4. Restart the computer This procedure resets the MacBook’s PRAM settings which contain many of the computer’s basic settings, including the RAM disc which needs to be accessed for the computer to awaken.

When you turn your computer on, does the screen turn white / light grey? If so is there a logo in the middle and what kind? Does it make the “dong” sound at any point or does it make any other sound? If you turn it on while holding down the “T” key will the computer go into target mode (firewire symbol bouncing on the screen)?

i closed my laptop lid last night after using it (with the cable attached) and it went into sleep mode but when i opened the laptop to use it again, all there was, was a black screen and nothing is happening.

sounds like the logic board to me. mine has done the same thing in the past and had the logic board replaced and all is well.

dealing with a similar problem today. In another forum (apple) I found others. I then tried as advised and started in firewire-target-mode and there I hat the HD on my desktop. That means logic board must be ok - but NVIDIA-card seems the one to blame. A happy start to the new year since I got the (mid 2007) MacBook Pro only today - at first it had worked, then I started to upgrade to 10.6. never touch a running … hr
