My laptop (MacBook pro 15 inch late 2011 edition) won’t power up anymore; resetting SMC, trying other adapter, etc doesn’t work. The light on the adaptor is green, not orange, so it’s not charging. When I press the battery indicator button on the side of the laptop when the adaptor is not connected, the battery seems completely drained. I think the battery is defective - but I find it strange that the computer won’t turn on with the adaptor connected. Before I order a new battery and change it I wonder if a faulty battery is really the cause. Any thoughts? Suggestions highly appreciated!

Disconnect the battery from the logic board and plug in magsafe..the board should start by itself, no need to press power button. If it starts then it’s probably a battery issue, if not something is faulty on the logic board side.
