Hi! I bought a faulty Macbook Pro 2012 13’ and it has a weird problem. It can boot normally, and when it does everything works. However, sometimes when it starts it only shows a blank white screen and the hard drive don’t show up when I start with option key. I even tried to boot from the opticaddy and it’s the same there. So it’s seem unlikely that the problem should be a faulty hard drive cable.. The previous owner said that the computer boots normally after a while when the componets have cooled down, and he seems right about that. I’ve tried to install a new Mac OS on one of the hard drives, but it got stuck multiple times during the installation so in the end I couldn’t finish it. Can it be something else than a faulty logic board? I could of course add cooling paste and clean the inside, but I’m not sure it would matter? I’ve tried to reset SMC and NVRAM. Thanks!

You’re facing a common issue do to a bad HD SATA cable! Your Hard Drive Cable Is A Ticking Time Bomb. I strongly agree the strip of electricians tape is important on the uppercase to prevent the rough surface from damaging the cable. You’ll need to replace it and make sure you put in the newest version of the cable which is this one: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable and here’s the guide MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive Cable Replacement You also need to be careful with it as often I find people damage it in the process of putting it in. Don’t bend or crease it! Instead use an old BIC pen ink straw as a form to curl the cable where it needs to be bent around a corner. You want the curve to not exceed the radius of the straw. Now after replacing the cable make a TimeMachine backup of your drive make sure its good ad you’ll need to wipe the drive (format it) and install a fresh copy of your MacOS and restore your stuff as you likely have a fair amount corruptions on it.
