Will the SSD from a MacBook Pro Retina 2012-2013 - part number; MZ-DPC512A/0A2 Work within a iMac - mid 2017 5k I’m getting a little tedious of the fusion drives access speeds, the plan is to replace the PCI with the above, then a 850 evo in place of the HDD as extra storage.
Sorry Apple has moved from an mSATA SSD to a NVMe/PCIe 4 lane SSD. The SSD is not compatible with your 27" iMac. Getting the correct four lane SSD is not easy as the demand is very high for them. You can get a 2 lane model (Samsung MZ-JPU256T/0A6) a lot easier but you’re not getting the full benefit of the interface. Its also a lot of work to get to it. How about taking a different direction! Get an external Thunderbolt RAID drive it will offer faster I/O than the internal SATA drive and if you get SSD’s you can get very close to what the internal SSD 4 lane drive.
