When connecting to a different magsafe charger, I heard a brief electronic zap (no sparks or smoke) and then the laptop went completely dead. Charging indicator on magsafe has weak green light. Pressing the battery indicator button on the side does nothing. Have tried resetting SMC… nothing. Computer will not boot, no start up chime, nothing. Will to boot from battery power only. I’m suspecting a fried logic board or DC in. But how do I determine which one? Is there any way to test these components? Thanks in advance for any help. Update (12/03/2018) I was able to take the MBP to an authorized service center. They tested the DC in card and the logic board. Unfortunately I have a dead logic board. So I guess I’ll be getting a new laptop. Thanks for for your help in trying to diagnose the problem.
First - The MagSafe charger you used is likely damaged inspect it for damage. Review this Apple T/N Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters. Also be aware there are a lot of fake chargers out there that can damage your system! Lacking safety features, cheap MacBook chargers create big sparks As far as your system you likely damaged the charging logic and your battery may also need replacing as well. A dim green MagSafe LED implies the charging logic needs repair. You could start by replacing the DC-In Board. More likely the MOSFET and the comparator logic is damaged on your logic board. Also check your battery checker disconnect it to see if its shorted out.
