Hi! It’s my first time in the forum and my last hope! I am with this macbook pro 13-inch early 2011, but when you turn it on the display refuses to react, it doesn’t show anything, even the apple logo on the back doesn’t glow. If an external monitor is plugged, it works fine and square, even tough the OSX (el capitan) doesn’t doesn’t consider the existence of a built in display in the laptop I’ve tried p vam reset, battery insert/removal and other sorts of unusual practices, and none seem to bring results I would say the LCD is dead, BUT if I boot on the bootcamp, the windows startup as expected and the display turns on just as a perfect one would do… So, I don’t have any clue of what is happening and decided to share my situation here, so any help would be very welcome UPDATE: After letting Macbook idle for sometime (connected to the external display) , after waking it up, the built-in display worked good. Then I restarted and again the blackscreen status, but coudn’t get the internal display to work anymore

Please restart in Safe Mode (by holding down the Shift key) on start up and let us know if it works. This should tell us if it is a software issue, which I believe it to be. That failing, start up holding down the R key, next try the option key and see if you can choice the repair partition. I suspect either virus or corrupt GPU drivers. What OS X are you running? UPDATE Try staring in Recovery Mode, run Disk Utilities. To enter this mode at any time, do the following: 1) In the Apple menu, choose Restart or power on your Mac. 2) As the computer restarts, hold down the Command (⌘) – Option (⌥) – R combination immediately upon hearing the startup chime. Hold the keys until the animated globe appears on the screen. This may also be a virus. If you can save your user folder to an external. Then, In recovery mode do a reinstall of the system.

I don’t know how to fix it but I have the same problem. Just updated a 2012 MacBook Pro to High Sierra while it was connected to an external display via thunderbolt to hdmi. Install went fine but now the internal display is not recognized. External LG tv works fine and when I go to displays and hold option key to detect displays the internal still isn’t available. Anyone ever ran into this?

So, I updated my osx to High sierra - and I am running into this issue every now and then. Sometimes my display just refuses to be detected, and then sometimes it does. And when its detected - once it goes to sleep and at the time of waking up - password screen deos not come up - it just shows fading in white and then turns entire white. and stays frozen. When I restart it from there - display is gone. but external display would work. restearts also dont work. And then if I shut down - for a good 8-10 hours - it comes back. NOt sure what it is. Anyone else ??

I will answer and you don’t wanna like it: You need to change your motherboard if your connectors are plugged (which usually are because is not easy to unplug). In my case it worth. Good luck anyway :(

Same problem! Has anyone found a solution?
