I was on vacation and when i came back the macbook wouldn’t start. I removed the battery and connected the charger and it turned on. But the display is nearly black although i can see something if i try very hard. keyboard and trackpad and power button are not working. The only way i can use it is by connecting an external display, mouse and keyboard and by plugging and un-plugging the power connector. The light on the connector is green and the battery charges. I can get the display to work (not the keyboard and trackpad) if i hold the power button and plug the charger at the same time. the fan will run on high speed and the power button now works too. but as soon as i do a SMC reset i’m back at square 1. Also when using the mac as a desktop it seems sluggish. tried: 1- smc reset 2- pram 3- nvram 4- repair disk 5- mac hardware test 6- tried with another charger that i know to be working 7- even if the battery charges if a remove the power cable it shuts down. nothing worked. Would appreciate if anyone could give me some input on this problem.

It seems you got a whole bunch of different issues unrelated one to the other here. That would point me to think about previous liquid damage. Has this Mac always been with you or was it purchased used ?
