Chosen Solution
This is a weird issue I’m having. The machine makes the startup sound, but I don’t have a way of knowing if it’s on or not. Usually after an extended period of time (30 mins or so), if I press the power button, the screen will come back on and I can log in as usual with no issues. So I can’t restart the computer or turn it off unless I want to go through that process again. Is there anything I can do to fix this, without having to turn it in for formal repairs?

shine a torch at the centre of the screen, it needs to be about an inch away and look for the picture of the file or logo or ?. If you can see it it will mean the bulb / backlite that lites up the screen has died.
