My Macbook Pro A1226 will boot with a chime and go to a blue screen with a horizontal white line in the middle then proceeding to a vertical gradient of blue after completely booting. I have tried safe mode, reinstall and everything else I have read on the issue. I even tried command shift 3 to see what it would do and heard it take a screenshot. Could it be a bad inverter board? A couple of days ago I noticed the screen wasn’t as sharp as it used to be.
These models have the Nvidia 8600 GPU. There is a recall on this if it is the problem. Please give us the last three figures of your serial number so we know exactly which machine you have. Hook it up to an external model and see if the problem persists. If you’re close take it in for Apple to test for this issue.
I have the same problem. How is it to fix it yourself? Do I need to replace the logicboard?
I have the very same problem, I contacted Apple and they said they would only do the repair work for free if the machine was under four years old, no exceptions. Mine was four years and two months and they would not entertain it. The best of it is that had I been made aware of the problem by Apple who obviously knew about it, it could have been done under there scheme when it first started to show signs of the fault a year earlier!!! Apple could have contacted everyone who bought a machine like this via email which they will have obtained when the machine was registered with them, very simple!
