I’ve been asked to try to troubleshoot/repair a Macbook Pro 13" Retina (Early 2015). The keyboard does not work on the thing (except power on/off button) the power on/off button works perfectly besides that when i shutdown the device and try SMS it also works on my internal keyboard, the trackpad mouse does work as well. If I plug in a USB keyboard, that works.  I bought and replaced a keyboard ribbon cable as that seems to be the most common issue causing this symptom, but it has not helped.  I’m really not all that familiar at all with Macbook repair. I tried to connect external usb keyboard . and do SMC and PRAM reset but nothing has changed. Anyone else have any ideas?  I just hate to spend money on parts that may or may not fix the issue.

I’m not sure why you replaced the Trackpad cable here. This series uses independent cables for the keyboard and trackpad. Lets check the keyboards cable connection on the logic board: First disconnect the battery following this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Battery Replacement Follow it through Step 6 Lift the tape which is covering the ribbon cable and its connector:

Carefully! fold up the cable clamp

Now grab the cable and carefully remove it

Now check the contacts are they clean and show no signs of corrosion? Carefully re-insert the cable back in and fold the clamp back down and reconnect the battery is the keyboard working now? Update (11/11/2019) Did you review the video? Here’s a few snips of the schematics

The keyboard logic in within the logic board not the touchpad (IPD). They do share the same power feed though. A shorted or damaged touchpad cable could have been an issue but that would have effected both. Did you inspect the touchpad to see if it has any corrosion? Did you inspect the keyboard decoder chip?

It’s located on the backside of the logic board, just across from the keyboard ribbon cable.
