I suspected that the C2D was the model in question. If you experienced in the past difficulties in starting up the machine, needing a few attempts to start especially in the cold, it’s almost sure it’s a logic board issue. There’s a capacitor that wears out and gets shorted. Heat temporarily disposes of the short. Either you move at the equator where the warmer climate might help starting your Mac or you’ll need a component level repair.

Try for a spontaneous reboot. Disconnect the battery from the logic board. Dis connect the mag-safe. Press and hold the power button for ten seconds. Reconnect first the battery, then the mag-safe. It should boot up on its own.
