G’day all. I have a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011 A1278 2.8GHz Intel Core i7. Lately the screen flickers when I change its angle by moving it backwards and forwards. I suspect the screen data cable has an intermittent connection due to fatigue in the region of the screen hinges. I checked out the MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Late 2011 Display Replacement guide on this website and it looks great, however I’m wondering whether I can replace just the data cable once I detach the screen from the lower body. I’m not sure whether the data cable is an integral part of the screen assembly or somehow bonded into the screen unit making it difficult to replace. Is the screen data cable simple to remove / replace ? I’m hoping it’s just a matter of removing the black cover from the screen to reveal the cable, but I thought I’d ask before I set about dismantling the laptop. I have searched and found many places offering a replacement cable but I didn’t want to purchase one only to find out I can’t do the job myself. Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your site - it’s an excellent resource.
You have to remove the lid from the MacBook, then remove the glass and LCD to change the cable. If you decide to do this, remove both the LCD and cable, then plug this directly into the logic board (so it is not in the lid). Move the cable to see if it cuts out, then move the PCB on the bottom of the LCD to see if it cuts out. I find the MacBooks are more likely to have an issue with the PCB board on the LCD rather than the cable itself, so try this first then order the parts you need.
