Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 2012 13" (Non Retina) model, The MacBook has no backlight keyboard and the MacBook does not sleep when you shut the lid. I feel the issues are related and it could be damage to a ribbon cable, but I’m not sure what one. I have tried SMC and PRAM Resets. Thank you for any help Bradley

You’ll need a magnet and a paperclip (Steel). Using the paper clip you should find on the upper edge of the lid where the magnet is. I believe the 13" has two like the 15" (its been awhile). If you fold the display down you’ll be able to locate the sensors location on the uppercase, using a magnet to set it off. Are you able to put the system to sleep then? As for the keyboard backlight you’ll need to check the ribbon cable connection. Refer to this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement] jump down to Step12 & 13. If you can’t get the system to sleep testing the sensor then you may have a similar problem with the ribbon cable jump to Step14 to check it out.
