I tried all the steps but the only thing that the macbook does is a little “clic” near the power button after I pressed it to turn the macbook air on. The light comes up for a few seconds, then the clic, then the light off. I tried to boot from an external usb drive with a Snow Leopard installed, but it was impossible since no boot process appears to work. Any ideas? Thank you

It was a damaged logicboard

I had a similar prob with MBA not starting after leaving it charging all night. I held down the start button for 15 secs and it came on. Go figure?

I’ve had this problem with PC laptops that have built up static electricity and I’ve had to discharge them by removing the battery and pressing the power button for 10-15 seconds to discharge any build up. The best I can come up with for a Macbook Air is to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) since the battery is not easily removed. This is also listed on Apple’s support site for possibly helping with your issue:

  1. Turn off MacBook Air.
  2. Connect the power adapter and plug it in.
  3. On the LEFT side of the keyboard), hold down Shift, Option and Control.
  4. With the other keys STILL HELD DOWN, press and hold the power button.
  5. Wait 5 seconds, then release all keys.
  6. Push power button to turn your MacBook Air back on. Please let me know if this helped.

While I agree that it sounds very much like a potential logic board issue, it’s also possible that the power supply is having issues. If the PSU stopped providing power, the connector (or cable) that attaches to the Macbook is broken, or the jack on the Macbook broke (unlikely, but possible), the battery would have kept the system running until it ran down. Assuming this is the case, then there’s only enough power left in the battery to activate the power light, but as soon as other components (such as the hard drive) attempt to start, it can’t provide the power and shuts down again. I’d check the power supply to see if it’s putting out the voltage it’s supposed to. Then, if you know anyone else with a Macbook Air, try theirs on your system. I hope this helps!

I think the fan should be bad! You must buy a new one to change it. Otherwise your computer is very easy to bad!My MacBook air MC504LL/A is broken like this.

Sorry this is not an answer but to say I am exactly in the same situation and far away from my local apple store in manhattan new York. I am traveling in India and my MacBook air has gone into a sleep mode and nothing is powering it up. It’s almost costing me my trip as a writer! Please help. It’s only 1 year old. Awam

sheesh…gotta brand new Mac Air 13" & it just doesn’t start up.. shud really give it the “boot” literally..have asked Apple to simply replace the piece..shudn’t they ??

The MacBook Air won’t boot just because the software of the MacBook not properly installed. I want to add something with this. I also faced the same problem and my MacBook Pro Won’t Turn On and it’s really a big blunder for me. So I suggest to go for the proper solution on MacBook center.
