My MacBook was showing symptoms (based on EXCELLENT support here) of a bad MagSafe board; dim light no power etc. I bought one from EBay, no change. I assumed it was the logic board. As a last resort I then found the tutorial on how to jump start via screwdriver. The unit powered up perfectly. With an external mouse keyboard attached and without the topcase on, everything worked as normal. So,I found yet another article here that pointed to the topcase cable or possibly the topcase altogether. I replaced the silver ribbon cable today. MagSafe symptoms returned and the LCD will go really dim, not all the way but like the backlight is gone. If I press on the topcase it will go full brightness but with the slightest touch it will go back and forth, like there’s a short. If I put the original ribbon back on MagSafe is dim again but so was the new one however no response from the topcase at all. I am assuming at this point it is the topcase once it’s disconnected MacBook works perfectly. I just wanted input before spending any major cash on this. It would seem that the Logic board is not the issue? S/N RM8260FV0P2
Replace your top case. There are more to them than just the keyboard and mouse. Major cash, $50 or less??If it works fine without the upper case, the problem is the top/upper case.
