I bought my mom a 2015 12" MacBooks and it ended up being a scam (tracked didn’t click, massive dent and in horrible condition). I got a refund from eBay without having to return it and I’ve bought her a proper working one. So now I’m stuck with this and I might as well fix it. The Mac crashes while booting (the apple logo will get half way, the mouse will appear and move and then it will crash and shut off.) If I hold down shift it will boot into safe mode no problem. Ive tried reinstalling Mac OS big Sur, nothing. I installed Mac OS Yosemite and still the same thing. I found that if I open the MacBook and disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable it will boot up normally. Any ideas what’s happening?

Before I try to repair, I would try resetting the SMC and the NRVAM. If this fails, then is probably could be a water damaged keyboard or a broken ribbon cable. I would buy a replacement keyboard to test on your MacBook, which you can return if it does not fix the problem. Hope this helps!
