Hi, I’m trying to figure out this loud knocking sound that happens when my Kenmore elite goes in to any spin cycle. It’s even worse when it’s in the high speed spin. I’ve pulled off the back of the machine inspected the motor belt and pulley. It all looks fine. I also made sure that its level. But it still makes the noise. Any info will help. Thanks John

John Warren, check this site for more on the parts and diagrams of your machine. You can also get the manual from here. I would take a close look at the shock absorber mount and the suspension spring and counterweight. Make sure that the spring is still attached and the counterweight bolt properly tightened. Of course, you also want to make sure that your machine is level etc. I am not convinced that it is your bearing. Those usually make a whining or grinding noise at all times, not just at a certain location. The issues with your machine sound more like the drum is out of alignment. However, if you need a bearing kit, you can get that from here.

my local repair man says the vibrating and jumping of machine on spin cycle is because of a broken shock absorber (1 of 2). He said he used to replace them is too old now and doesn’t do it anymore. Kenmore junk.

If yours is a front load washer it’s probably the spider assembly is cracked or broken. The spider assembly is how the shaft attaches to the drum. I would check your owners manual to see if it’s under warranty. Some have a lifetime warranty on the drum but the outer tub might need replaced if it did damage to it. The outer tub probably is only under warranty for about 5 years.

As the drum spins slowly you won’t experience the loud noise, as it speeds up, and so moves out further, what is happening is that the drum is knocking into the heater element which sits at the bottom, between the inner and outer drum. Remove and refit the element, ensuring that it is correctly seated

My solutions was that the Pulley was loose, even if you tightened the nut, it still wobbled. You shake the pulley with your hand and it wobbles in and out (side to side, the direction of the spin is okay). I took a large thick washer and put it between the nut and the pulley. It tightened up, and much of the noise went away.

There might be something stuck between the basket and the tub. Bra wires are not uncommon culprits

Its the drum smashing into the tub. Next there will be bits of the fiber glass tub and then a leak when it makes a hole in the tub. Ask me how I know!!!!!!

One of the braces on the back of the basket is cracked causing it to distort from being round causing the vibration and the basket to rub on the fiberglass tub wearing a hole in it (the bits and pieces on the seal when you open the door) and ultimately leaking water onto the floor.

The same exact thing is currently happening to me! Identical. Any solutions? What exactly has to be fixed?

I have a Kenmore front loader washing machine machine.I just cleaned the water pump.It was full of money change. After putting it back on I went to hand turn the drum.By doing this I can still hear money inside under the drum.It seems to be in one of the three plastic supports that helps turn the clothes. Its in one of them How do I remove this Or is this one of the cases you have to wait for change come out by itself as I wash clothes? Thanks Kevin

my front load washer is making the knocking noise and yes it is balanced and it is a fairly new washer that we got from the sears store where you get blemished washers , any ideas ?

I am having the same problem for about 3 years now. Repairman has changed lots of little parts and problem keeps letting worse. He was here to fix it again this morning and now tells me it is the drum and bearings and that I will have to get a new machine. I have paid the extended warranty for my machine.

I had the same problem! NO repairs! The repairman said it just needed cleaning. I ran Affresh in the cleaning cycle & knocking went away. I use it the 1st of every month now.

I had an F/H code i fix that and them I got an E/11 code fix that but now the washer is a knocking noise and i get very loud when it is sniping

The washer pulley nut that holds the pulley drive had come loose on my washer causing the drive pulley to rub against the drive cover. The newer (HE) Kenmore model did not have any ball bearings. Suggest going to the Kenmore site to get a diagram of the proper model before looking at the fix required. (http://www.searspartsdirect.com/)

Looks like the bearings are out on my Kenmore HE3. This morning during washing, notice a very loud banging, thought it was coming from neighbors. Saw it was my washer. Looked up some videos on YouTube to see what the problem was and sure enough the worn out bearings describes my washer perfectly. It has the plastic shredded pieces around the drum, wobbly drum, and very loud banging noise when spinning at high speed. My washer is 13 years old, lightly used though. I thought for sure my dryer would die before the washer. Looks like replacing is cheaper than repairing.
