Been using an older Dell monitor through an HDMI converter cable and an extension. Worked fine yesterday. This morning, two such monitors complain about having no VGA (!) signal. Connections appear fine. Does this mean replacing the logic board? If so, is the 2.8 MHz board a straight swap for the 2.2 MHz version? Thanks. Update (02/15/2022) State of play: Tried two external monitors, both old Dell G2410s that work with other machines and worked with this MacBook Pro until Sunday. Neither admits to receiving a signal. Switching to a new cable had no effect. Updated to 12.2.1 without change. The external display shows up as normal in Preferences/Display. Detect displays has no visible effect. The System Report identifies the Dell G2410 and reports it as being online. Apple Diagnostics reveals only that my battery needs service even though I may not notice any problems with operation or capacity. No doubt the defect is that iFixIt doesn’t send money to Cupertino. Ordered a converter cable for the Thunderbolt 2 port, which I should have thought of two days ago. If this doesn’t work, I will be down to replacing the logic board. Still eagerly seeking alternatives. Thanks to all.
Many thanks for trying Dan and HelloMacOS. Unfortunately, a new cable didn’t help, and “Detect Displays” didn’t appear to do anything—not that it’s likely to, I guess, if it doesn’t find anything. Back to assuming it’s time for a new logic board.
Hi My MacBook Pro 15inch sometimes does that but I find doing this makes it work Go to the Apple menu and choose System PreferencesChoose the “Displays” panelHold down the “Option” key to show the “Detect Displays” button – note that it replaces the ‘Gather Windows’ buttonClick on “Detect Displays” while holding down Option to use the function as intendedHopefully this fixes your issue:)
Did you try a different cable converter yet?
