Hi folks, I bought a 2nd hand iphone 5s with the intention of learning how to do basic repairs (screens, batteries, etc). What happens to the phone doesn’t really matter as I was prepared to accept that if I break it, so be it. I decided to go one step further as the housing was battered, so I bought a new housing and transferred all of the internals into the new one. Everything seemed to go well apart from the fact that I have what looks like a tiny washer left over. I’ve no idea where it came from and no amount of googling turns up an answer. I also started experiencing the problems mentioned in the title of the post. The Logic board is getting hotter the expected, the battery shows 1% when I start up, then displays the actual amount of charge in the battery and then randomly fluctuates. Then after 2-3 minutes, the phone reboots.

For the spacer, check out the third picture on Step 33 of this guide. Was the phone working properly prior to being worked on? Rebooting can be caused by a damaged modular component or logic board damage. The iPhone 5S is subject to pry damage when removing the battery (with the logic board still in place). The other possibility is connector damage. Try disconnecting everything except the battery and Lightning port and then use 3uTools to see if the phone boots and stays on without restarting. If it doesn’t restart, then one of the modular components is bad. If it does restart, then it’s probably a logic board issue although it could be the Lightning port or battery as well.
