New varistor made no difference. If I could repair it myself, it would have been worth it. But not worth paying a tech to fix a 9-year old TV. Used LG’s free recycling program (they paid shipping!).
@rbanks88 a definite good repair candidate. Remove the back cover from your TV. Then check all the boards visually for obvious damaged components. Sounds like the ones you are describing are uncommon so we should find a couple of overheated etc. components. Could be MOSFETS, rectifiers etc. but we’ll have to see your boards. Focus on the powerboard and start there to check things out. Adding images to an existing question
