Chosen Solution
Water pours out of the drain pump filter of my front load LG washer when I open it. The water should be draining out of the drain hose.
Check to see that the drain hose is not clogged.
I found this post online tonight and thought my prayers had been answered. But I was disappointed to find that while this was EXACTLY the problem I am having, there was no real answer on how to solve it. Luckily I was able to figure it out on my own. So for the next person who finds themselves in this situation, here goes: The problem was that the small drain hose inside the little door on the bottom left of the front of the washer was clogged with sediment. I learned this when I inserted a very long plastic zip tie into the drain hose and hit something solid not too far in. I tried burrowing through the sediment with the zip tie but the hose was too clogged for that. Everything I read online told me that to clear a clogged drain hose I had to take the front of the washing machine off to gain full access to the hose. But my washer and dryer are stacked inside a very small closet and the idea of having to shimmy them out, uncouple them, and take the washer apart was the stuff nightmares are made of. I knew I had to figure out a way to unclog the tube from the outside. I remembered once using a power washer to break through a clog in storm drain pipe that ran under a sidewalk, but I knew this job was way too small for that solution. Then I had an idea. I found an old Water Pik that I don’t use anymore, the kind with a water well and a wand with a bunch of different accessories for cleaning gums. I took one of the long “aqua flosser” heads (the kind with the little curved end) and held it over the stove to soften the plastic so I could straighten it out. Once it was straight, I inserted the flosser into the clogged tube and turned the Water Pik on at the highest speed. I now had a mini pressure washer! I alternated shooting water into the hose and working the clog with the zip tie. Each time I inserted the zip tie, I was able to work it deeper and deeper into the hose until finally, when I used the Water Pik, the water began flowing freely out of the filter side. (I had removed the plastic filter before I started shooting water into the tube.) I continued using the Water Pik until I had flushed everything clean then I capped the hose and put the filter back in. I knew the problem solved when I poured water into the drum of the washer and this time, when I opened the hose the water came out from there instead of from the filter. Since I was on a roll, I used the Water Pik to flush out the rubber gasket around the outside of the drum and the area where the detergent runs down into the washer. Once I was satisfied that everything was clean, I ran the machine on long hot cycle with baking soda and bleach. Everything now smells clean and fresh! I cleaned up the zip tie and the aqua flosser and put them in a plastic bag to keep them handy for periodic cleanings to keep the machine clean. Hope this helps someone else in this predicament!
I stupidly pushed the tiny filter pump hose back into the hole it comes out of…. and now cannot get it back. Not an issue this minute, but will not be able to clean it next time. Anyone know how hard it is to get access to it? My washer and dryer are stacked, which does not help.
Same happened to me. The OPEN tiny filter pump hose went back inside the washer and we cannot get it back. How do I get it back. Any simple solution? We cannot wash clothes without first closing the tiny drain hose.
