Chosen Solution

After replacing my iPhone lcd screen the other day post smash it has become problematic. Sometimes the phone selects buttons I’m no where near, sometimes it’s as if the screen is dead (on but non responsive), sometimes the scroll goes bananas and starts flicking up and down pages. It will be fine for a min or two after locking and unlocking the phone but will always default back to crazy mode. Any ideas?

Hi Josh,

  • New screen could be faulty, or damaged during installation: try new known good screen (or old smashed screen if you still have it) to verify;
  • Connectors could be dirty or not improperly seated: turn off iPhone, disconnect screen, clean connectors on the board (and the screen cables) with a cotton swab dipped in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol (do not let alcohol near the screen, will ruin it), reseat making sure cables are properly seated without pulling on them which will damage them (may be you did that already during the first repair), then test;
  • Could be that connector on the logic board is damaged, or some other component torn, damaged, broken, etc. Examine the screen connectors and around them on the board using a good magnifying glass. Let us know if you find anything suspicious. You may need to VERY CAREFULLY remove the black “foil” that covers the components around the screen connectors to avoid breaking off components hidden underneath.
