Hello everybody! I just tried to fix my iPad mini after my father broke the digitizer. So….where do I start?? First time I do this kind of operation, purchased all the items from the iFixit store in EU besides the digitizer which was not available. Removed the broken digitizer (that was messy…glass shattered everywhere!)Removed the lcd and shield plateDisconnected broken digitizer, lcd and batteryCleaned up everythingConnected the new digitizer, lcd and batteryTested the iPad to see if everything was workingPROBLEM!
There is no backlight but you can see the icons on the lcd, the problem is that the left half of the screen is dead! I tried to disconnect and re-connect the lcd again but nothing changed, have I damaged something while I was removing the lcd?? Please find attached some photos of the lcd
You have two common problems. 1.) You removed the LCD connection before removing the battery. This will blow the highly sensitive iPad mini backlight fuse. It will have to be replaced. I highly recommend sending it out for a simple inexpensive fuse replacement rather than reading up on the all the ways to jump the fuse, it is in an area surrounded by critical components—way too easy to do irreversible damage 2.) You damaged the LCD itself during removal. This is very common with the thin LCD on the mini, and can often occur just from flexing the LCD during removal, or from failure to cut through the bottom tape–too much pressure on the LCD. You will need a new LCD and a fuse replacement to solve. jessa
Breaking the lcd is a problem when removing as it’s glued down had you any difficulty removing it?
