I have a Late 2015 27” iMac. I’m going to experiment with upgrading to Kaby lake 7700k CPU. I will share the results soon. Good luck to me.
I gave it a try! I installed 7700k CPU in my iMac today. It did not recognize it. I lost money and time, as I was curious if it would work. Sadly no soap.
While these chips are very similar (review the specs sheets below) I don’t think it will work as the systems EFI likely won’t recognize the chips Device ID code. Sky Lake i7-6700KKaby Lake i7-7700K If it does work you’ll need to run some benchmarks to see if you gained any real performance.
