When pressing the power button, the lights flash on and you hear the fan - but after a second, the computer shuts down. Then after 2 seconds starts the process over again. Once it is in this state, the only way of stopping it is by removing the battery and the power cord. Update Thanks. I sent the computer to HP and they replaced the motherboard.

Sounds like the BIOS has been corrupted. This commonly happens after running HP’s own “Health Check” and following its recommendation to update the BIOS. Things appear to work fine, but after the machine turns off, you are not able to restart it, and it exhibits the symptom you describe. It is possible to re-flash the BIOS using a Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disk in an external USB drive, but it’s time-consuming to find the right versions of PHLASH16, the BIOS files, etc. I find it hard to believe that HP allows this extremely serious and well-known problem to persist, and does not provide any information on how to recover. They tell people to send the machine in to them to fix — at the users expense.

im not to familiar with hp’s but it sounds like there is a problem with your motherboard

I would remove all the power from the computer, ac adapter and battery, hold the power button in for 30 seconds then reconnect it to see if that resets it. Would try removing the ram etc.. to see if something is causing it not to post. Some of the HP DV 9000 Models did have an issue with the Nvidia Graphics chip as well. http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/affected… Nvidia in a settlement is replacing certain units that experience video problems, not sure if you were having issues with that previously but it is worth looking into.

I have a problem, friend gave me laptop that is i mint condition compared to others I have in home. Sadly it turns off about second, time is so short that even fan doesnt start during that short period, even no display at all. Used it’s rams in my older laptop, they work as intendent, switched cmos battery to new, were trying to launch with battery and AC, battery alone ane. New baterry didn’t make it run, no. Dunno any more solutions, checked voltage on AC/DC adapter. I wont it badly to work, will allow me for running multiple tasks at same time, intsead of my old laptop that is totally usscrewed and lies on 4 bottle caps to not overheatmI can play anarchy onlie for hours using 4 accounts at once with weak machine. There are no blink codes on that new laptop, and its pretty fancy for me, touchpads for sterring most of thing, like volumefront side jack panels etc, just cant get it to launch, any ideas?
