The top rack on my Kitchenaid KUDS30FXSS1 was not cleaning, so I followed a video to get into the food chopper assembly and clean it. It seemed simple enough as I was going along, but when I removed the cover for the food chopper, the blade was not straight up and down, it was at a 15-20 degree angle. I should have snapped a pic. It was also covered with debris, so I too it out to clean it. Upon doing so, I notice that the housing looked damaged, so I snapped these pics:
I am going to assume that the loud noise we heard several months ago was not the spray arms hitting something, and more likely was the chopper failing and embedding itself into the plastic. We stopped the dishwasher when we heard the noise and checked the spray arms, and when the cycle resumed, there was no more sound. I figured the sprayers were hitting something and when we rolled the racks out, the item causing the noise settled into the racks. I don’t see any other removable part(s) other than the entire pump/motor assembly, and since one half of the housing that is still attached to the pump/motor is damaged I assume my only recourse at this time is to replace the entire motor? Also, can I run the dishwasher without the food chopper - pre-rinsing the dishes really well of course, or is that not advised?
Hi @kazinsd Here’s a link to the pump, washarm and motor parts for your dishwasher. Is part #16 - volute with seal the faulty part? If not hopefully the parts diagram may be of some help If it is, there are other suppliers online that may suit you better, just search for KUDS30FXSS1 parts to get results
