Howdy. My boss spilt some tea on his laptop. I have taken the logic board out and inspected. It all appears fine. The machine boots and I can put the password in. It loads to about 25% across the loading bar then turns off. I can get it to boot all the way to the usable main screen, but only by holding down the esc key permanently. Once I let it go, the shutdown screen comes up and then powers down. Similar to holding the power button down. I’m guessing there is a short in the keyboard somewhere? Any ideas? I have taken the backing tape off to get to the underside of the keyboard when the logic board was out and given it a clean with some contact cleaner but it hasn’t helped. Cheers, Brad.

Do you have a USB keyboard and mouse to plug in? If you do carefully disconnect the internal keyboard. Reconnect the battery, if the system doesn’t spontaneously boot, use the power pads to start the system. Using the USB keyboard and mouse is the system working? If it is then its clear the keyboard needs to be replaced. There are two paths you can take, you can replace the keyboard alone or just replace the full upper case.
