On my Asus FX550VX I cannot turn on the keyboard backlight. The fn+F4 or the fn+F3 does not turn it on or off. fn+F3 opens the outlook mail and the fn+F4 opens my browser. How do I turn on the keyboard backlight?

Hi, If you have Win 10 installed, try updating the ATK package and Smart Gesture drivers and see if this resolves the problem. Be sure to update the ATK package first before the Smart Gesture drivers. Here is a link to the latest Asus Win 10 drivers Be aware of the Notes: near the top of the page in the link, regarding installation of the drivers. Also do not be tempted to update all the relevant drivers found on this link. It may confuse the issue if you run into problems. Work on one problem at a time. As the saying goes “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”

If you’ve turned off your touch pad using fn-f9, then use fn-f9 to toggle it back on momentarily.  Then, while the touchpad is momentarily active, try fn-f4 to brighten and fn-f3 to dim the backlight to desired level.  Once at the desired level you may opt to disable the touchpad again using fn-f9.  Bright and dim will continue to function as expected going forward until the next time your computer sleeps or re-boots.  Should bright and dim stop responding, simply repeat the fn-f9 toggle trick and you should be all set.

So I just figured out my “A” button has a function. I held down my fn key and “a” and my backlight on my keyboard popped on!! It took me two years to figure it out.

Your model of laptop does not have backlighting. That is why your F3 and F4 buttons do not have any icons on them.
