My keyboard and trackpad frequently stop working and im not sure what the reason is. Sometimes i only need to close then open it again to get them to work, sometimes it requires a full restart, i have spilled water on my computer in the past but im not sure if that is the issue. Also sometimes, like right now the caps lock light is on but im not typing in all caps. and recently it has started repeating keys which isn’t stopped by hitting another one it just keeps repeating and i need to restart, there must be a short somewhere and i believe i need to replace the keyboard i can do that i was just wondering if anybody had insights to another possible cause

Hook it up to an external keyboard. If the keyboard works then the problem is with your internal keyboard. Let us know the results and we can direct you to the correct parts and procedure.

I have exactly the same problem with my macbook pro… it’s been like it for a few months now. I’ve a wireless keyboard and mouse which work perfectly whenever the laptop keyboard/trackpad fail. A more recent development is the kernal panics which are happening probably twice a week on average, although sometimes I’ll get four or five one after another. I’ve heard the rumour about this often being caused the keyboard ribbon under the battery and have tested that out by inserting a small piece of paper between the ribbon and the metal of the case, but it hasn’t helped at all. I have also tried removing the battery completely and just running from the mains, but the problem persists. I took it into my local Apple store and consulted a “genuis” who suggested that it could be that the plists are corrupted or else the logic board has failed. I know it’s not the plists as it happens for all users - including new ones I’ve set up to test this theory. If it is the logic board and this affects other machines, shouldn’t Apple repair it even outside of warranty? I’m all ears for suggestions of anything else I could try!
