Hi, Just bought an old 2011 15 inch Macbook Pro knowing keyboard and trackpad are not working. The Power button is working, but i’m not able to make a PRAM or SMC Reset. My Question: Why is both not working when there are separate connectors of keyboard and Trackpad? (Connector cable of keyboard seems used but then again the power button and the backlight is working) Trackpad is not working at all. What can I do? Thanks! Update (08/03/2017) Thanks for the reply. Ok sounds bad, None of the keys is working ( i can normally use it with usb mouse and keyboard works completely fine), Battary is from 2015 (coconut battary) 160 cycles, not swollen. No screen anomalies, but a big bump on the outer aluminium body - so it definitely fell hard some time ago. How could broken a hard drive/IR cable affect the keyboard/trackpad function? Thanks Update (08/08/2017) Hi, Just replaced the Keyboard and it sadly it still wont be recognized - But i just saw the the chip above the Keyboard and Trackpad Connectors has one brown, corroded contact (from the back) - maybe that chip is broken… Do you have other ideas?

Possible liquid damage. Test all the keys individually. Open and check trackpad to logic board connection, see if you can tell if someone has been in it. Check for a swollen battery. Do you have any screen anomalies? This machine had a recall on the GPU. Know hard drive/IR cable issues. UPDATE Ok, your keyboard appears to have shorted out, probably due to liquid. Here’s a video on how to replace it. Takes me about 2.25 hrs with an electric screwdriver (but I’m a pro so plan on 4 hours if you’re a noob) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvqbrJ02… Here’s the part: http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-New-Original… Here’s the guide for removing the upper case: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011 Upper Case Replacement or you say (that’s more than i wanted to get into, just get me to the damned part) well here it is: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Early 2011-Mid 2012) Upper Case
