Hi all, I have opened my MacBook to clean the fan as it was overheating. When I’ve re-assembled it, the keyboard and touchpad didn’t work. The backlight didn’t work either. The keyboard and touchpad of the MacBook seem to be dead. That said the power button still works fine. Can you help me determine what the issue might be? Maybe I forgot to plug in something but it doesn’t seem to be the case.

I am fairly confident this is an issue with the trackpad flex cable. From your image I can see multiple pock marks and dents in the cable. They are known to go out easily on this model (they rub up against the bottom plate and degrade over time). When they go out both the trackpad and the keyboard become non-responsive. I would recommend replacing the cable and reinforcing with electrical tape. The trackpad cable is shown in Step 18 of this guide. You can purchase them online here.

Hello Sir, Apple does offer a free keyboard + Trackpad replacement for eligible models that have not come in contact with any kind of liquid. If I were you I would bring it to an Apple store to see if your model is eligible for the replacement. As to why the problem happened in the first place, I have no clue, my only suggestion would be to check with Apple for a replacement.
