So my friends Mac began to become incredibly slow. He restarted it and it was still slow. The fan was running like a jet engine, so I checked the activity monitor. Turns out, the Kernel_task was using all of my CPU. I googled what it was, but I don’t know why it turned on as the computer is now cooler that the surrounding air. Any fixes? Update (12/09/2019) So I looked at the activity monitor, and the Kernel_Task is still rampant. I saw however, that a “kextd” was running. I remember that when I researched the problem, kextds could be the root of it. Any fixes for this?

First and easiest thing is to disconnect the battery, since a battery failure may cause CPU throttling and unresponsive finder actions. If that fixes the issue you just need a battery replacement. If it doesn’t, try running a diagnostic in the hope it may give some basic additional info to work on: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731
