I was able to remove the battery using the adhesive strips, but the bottom part of the casing protecting the battery stuck to the adhesive and peeled with it. The battery didn’t smoke or bulge or explode or emit any unusual smells. I’m curious how dangerous it is to hang on to the battery as it is in its current state until I’m able to recycle it and what safety precautions I’ll need to take… I’ve attached a picture. before the removal, I discharged the battery to below 10%.
It seems it was just lightly peeled off a bit the outermost layer, there’s nothing to worry about in my opinion. The precaution to discharge battery before starting the job was a smart move. Batteries may get dangerous when they are shorted because of perforation, heavy bending or other injuries, nothing even close to that small surface damage. Keep it in a glass/porcelain container in a ventilated area to be on the safest side but I would not worry about it.
