Hi folks, so I opened up my iMac to swap the hdd for an ssd and accidentally damaged the first 4 or 5 pins (from the left) of the LVDS connector (on the end that connects to the logic board). I didn’t notice it and when i booted the computer, all I got was a black screen. I’ve already ordered a new cable, meanwhile. All is well with the LVDS port on the logic board (well, apparently). After that, I disconnected the LVDS cable and proceeded to use the iMac with a external monitor: super slow, kernel_task with enormous CPU usage and fans at max speed. Ran the Hardware Check and got the error 4SNS/1/C0000008:TLOp–124 (which seems to be related to the lcd thermal sensor - or the lack of it, on this case). I went to check the connections, wondering if there would be some way to connect it without using the LCD (I guess it’s not possible), and found a burnt/exploded component close to the LVDS port (right on the side where the connector pins were damaged). My guess is that somehow it caused some sort circuit that led to this:
https://ibb.co/cv4fA6 Is it related to the hardware error code and the slowing down of the computer? Can it be repaired or do I need a new logic board? Can it be bypassed while using the computer with an external monitor? Thanks in advance, I really need to use this machine :) Cheers! Claudio
@claudiofernande for now this is only to identify the component. The component in question is L9100 which is a 250 ohm ferrite inductor. I do not have the package size (looks like a 0805 package) but you determine that by measuring the component you have.
You do want to measure the capacitors just left of it. The first one right next to the inductor, is a10Uf 16V 10% capacitor in a 0805 package and the smaller one is a 0.001UF 50V20% capacitor in a 402 package. The inductor is on PP12V_S0_LCD so you would have to check the components on the rail to see what is going on. Replace the inductor first then focus on checking it out. Post some good high res image of both sides of yor logicboard with your question. that will allow us to see what you see.
