Hello, my wife spilled coffee over a late-2008 MBP which in turn rejected to work. (She actually did something similar recently to her 2-year old MBA, but its kinda working, currently replacing the Trackpad there). Anyway, back to this MBP for which I thought why not repair it. I opened it and could spot a place which looked like old coffee ;) Cleaned it up, powered it on, did a few measures, and that one part doesnt look too good - theres also no voltage. The MBPs charger cable is green when attached, it does charge the battery just fine, and the MBP does actually start when pressing the power button - the sound plays, fans start spinning, but thats it - screen stays dark, also external screen doesnt show anything. I have attached 3 pics to show the bad part, and then I noticed on the pics that small other part doesnt look too well, too. Anybody know what they’re for and how I can diagnose them correclty, and if I can/should replace them? Thank you so much :)
@twinkly_maladap the parts are F9800 which is a 2A 32V backlight fuse in a 0402 package. The other part is L9701 which is a IHLP2525CZ 22UH 2.5A inductor Something like this) and is also part of your LCD backlight circuitry. This would explain why your LCD does not display anything but does not explain while the external monitor does not work. Both parts can be replaced as long as you have soldered before. If unsure, you want to send it to someone who can help you with that.
