- How & when we should change thermal paste ? i read some article said that we need to change thermal regularly, is it true ?
- is there any guide that showing step by step to change thermal paste ? Thank you
Its never a bad idea to replace thermal paste . This video can help with the process . Also don’t cheap out on the paste quality
I agree with @jimfixer that changing the thermal paste is a good idea. The i7’s can get pretty hot if you are doing some high end activities, such as gaming, graphics editing, or even simple web pages full of Flash. I suggest Arctic silver. You only need a thin layer with that. The idea is to get as thin a layer as possible to transfer the heat directly from the processor to the heat sink instead of heat getting trapped and built up in the “grey goo” first.
1: There is no need to change thermal paste in the whole expected life of the device (3 years). If you want to use the machine for more than 5 years, change it then. 2: Apple has official repair manuals for thermal paste changing, but they are just being through. You shouldn’t have to read a manual to change some grey goo.
