This old girl is my wife’s photographic processing device using Lightroom, but she (the iMac) is showing her age (so my wife tells me :-)). The iMac has been upgraded to 8GB RAM and I may take her over as a music production tool, but as a darkside user, I would love a fiddling manual, if one exists.

@spuddo this would be the right manual for that " old girl" iMac 27" Fiddling Manual

Here’s are the specs on your machine: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/im

@spuddo - You will likely find the IFIXIT guide here a bit easier to follow: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2309 and 2374 Hard Drive Replacement if you are placing on swapping out your current HD for a SSD. You do have a few things to consider: The HD is a 3.5" and SSD’s are 2.5" you’ll need an adapter frame. This series of iMac’s use the HD’s internal thermal sensor to manage the fan’s. You’ll need this part to offset the now missing sensor: OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac 2009-2010 Hard Drive UpgradeLastly, your systems SATA ports are only SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) so make sure the SSD you get is able to run at this speed. Review the drives spec sheet it must say it will support SATA II. As a reference here’s the Samsung SSD sheet: 850 EVO SSD note the ‘Interface’ line, make sure the SSD you go has it listed too.
