Hello folks, I have a question , since they are using the same cable: is the MacBook Air 2018 model keyboard working without a connected trackpad? thanks in advice Update: Yes, I have a water damaged trackpad and I’m not sure if the keyboard is broken too. I disassembled the trackpad and only the Keyboard is Connected. But the system is not finding the connected keyboard so I thought maybe they only work together with this daisy chained flex cable. I will try out again after I’ve cleaned the trackpad. Update (03.09.2020) Hello @ all . After testing with new trackpad I can confirm that the Keyboard is Daisy chained with the Trackpad. Keyboard will not work without Trackpad.
Not following you here… The keyboard and trackpad share the same connection at the logic board so if you disconnect the logic board connection you lose both, If you disconnect the keyboard end or the trackpad end then you will lose which ever one you disconnected. Are you thinking the touchpad’s is daisy-chained like the MacBook Pro models? So if you disconnect the trackpad the you loose the keyboard? As I have not worked on this version of MacBook Air yet I can’t say for sure. But, looking at the MacBook Air 13" Retina 2018 Teardown Step 10 its clear the connection to the logic board is wider than what is needed if the connection was daisy-chained.
