I broke the Home button in my Iphone 5s while I opened it. I replaced it for a new one, but the finger print sensor doesn’t work (I know this is common problem) and my phone battery drain off much faster - and very hot when I charge it up - than before. I would like tok check my phone with the old Home button, but I don’t know that how do I get started with the repair. Of course if that’s possible or worth for trying it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Realistically, no it is not possible. You are fortunate that the tear is further away from the actual button. Usually, the flex tears close to the button. In theory, if you could re-establish the connections that were severed . In reality, there are 6-8 connections on a flexible mylar strip only a few millimeters wide. This would be a super challenging, near impossible task for a very experienced micro-solderer. This is clearly not a DIY repair. You could try to source a broken 5S for cheap and use its button. You would not have Touch ID but you would have a genuine button and that may solve your battery drain problem.

STOP! DO NOT THROW AWAY THE BUTTON! get a microsoldering expert to transfer the NXP chip from this broken one to another used and apple genuine one. Touch id will be retained. If you already threw the home button away, take it out of the trash and guard it with your life. Yes, even if you have to dig through dirty diapers and cold chili.

It is possible and practical. There are people offering to reconnect the broken cables in China.
